Resell of Glastonbury sold out tickets starts today. But exactly how much do they set you back? The answer is certainly ‘greater than the original price’ thanks to additional booking fees. How can celebration ticket sellers validate it?

I’m a big fan of summer months celebrations, even when it pours with rain. However the cost of visiting gigs like Glastonbury, Reading or others can easily add up. Transport, applications, food items– and if one might not be accustomed to the outdoors way of life, you will undoubtedly need to fork out for a tent and wellington boots.

My £170 ticket with respect to this year’s Latitude Event literally set me back £186.25. That is after factoring in a ’scheduling cost’ of £ 7, and a £ 5.25 ‘deal cost’.

Glastonbury tickets will certainly set up you back £195, but the booking costs will take the sum total to £200, as well as postage and packaging which is £4.95 each admission.

Surcharges vs scheduling fees

Do sellers actually carry out £5 worth of work for each ticket they flog? If I paid an individual to sit in a space taking cheques from willing festival-goers as well as stuffing admissions into envelopes it might cost more in wages than £5 an admission but what about companies using a streamlined, semi-automatic or fully automatic internet service?

The admission sellers aren’t really providing a service to me– they’re providing one to the organisers. They are actually taking my hard earned cash by distributing their own tickets. Surely it makes more sense for the costs to be passed on via the organisers (as well as a greater upfront admission rate) than for them to slap a £ 5 fee on tickets that are £170? It’s like a scene from one man, two guvnors!

It shocks me even more as festival organisers are increasingly keen to seem open, honest and ethical. Essentially as if they’re not running a business striving to make money! I think that if ticket resale companies want consumers to trust them more, the total price they display should be the total amount of money you pay. It should include the admin charge, the postage and packing and everything else they can think of.
